Senior Systems Administrator
Primary Responsibilities:
Serve as the Team Leader for the Systems and Notes Administrators team, managing group deliverables;
Assist the IT management team in strategizing for global systems needs, establishing workplans to meet the company objectives;
Maintain all operating systems and their associated software, ensuring proper functioning;
Manage communications and connection solutions, such as LANs and support systems for web-based sites and applications;
Manage host computers, databases, and data transfers, ensuring system integrity;
Deploy and maintain firewalls and all host security activities;
Oversee software and systems installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting for end user desktops;
Distribute and supervise server storage space allotments;
Design and implement disaster recovery plan for operating systems, databases, networks, servers, and software applications;
Analyze system and application usage, planning for growth or increases in network capacity;
Assess and execute system reconfigurations needs;
Ensure connectivity to, and proper operation of, all network devices;
Conduct research on emerging products, services, protocols, and standards to support systems software development efforts;
Interact and negotiate with contractors and other external resources to secure software products and services;
Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures, providing training for system administrators and end users;
Manage network assets, including maintenance of network component inventory, and the related documentation;
Perform network and security audits;
Monitor and test server software performance and provide statistics and reports;
Recommend, schedule, and implement software improvements, upgrades, and/or purchases;
Provide on-call support as needed; and
Complete other responsibilities related to serving as Team Lead and conducting Systems Administration as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications:
Education: B.S. in computer science required.
Work Experience: 6+ years of relevant work experience in systems administration required.
Knowledge:
Strong team leadership, organizational, and project management skills, with ability to understand and meet organization goals
In-depth working knowledge of networks, communications and operating systems (Microsoft Windows, Unix/Linux, PC)
Working and technical knowledge of current systems software, protocols, and standards
Strong knowledge of local area network administration
Hands-on software and hardware troubleshooting experience
Prefer: Extensive application support experience; experience with administration of databases; knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws; some knowledge of, or training in, the following: CISCO network routers, switches, security devices, Microsoft Server OS and AD, Altiris, HP SIM, Symantec AV and CA Brightstore backup software, VMWare, SANs, Lotus Domino, IIS, Apache, MS SQL, MySQL, BIND
Skills:
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with close attention to detail
Adept at reading, interpreting, and writing technical documentation and procedure manuals
Ability to research software issues and products, providing feedback and resolution ideas
