Senior System Safety Engineer

This position is in sole support to projects located at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center located in Greenbelt, MD, close to Washington, D.C

Description:
Reviews, analyzes, and prepares contractor, subcontractor and customer program submittals including accident risk assessment reports; preliminary hazard analyses, system hazard analyses, tracking system and system inspection checklists, ground and range safety and orbital safety procedures, and accident and incident investigation analyses. Reviews and analyzes program development documentation for new and ongoing program including design criteria, specification and drawing, test operations and maintenance procedures, safety equipment and personal protective clothing, trade-off studies and siting plans; conducts independent and complex analyses to evaluate system design, accident risk factors and hazard energy sources and recommends major abatement or mitigation actions to prevent or correct safety hazards. Prepares test plans, monitors results and prepares final test reports. Conducts special analyses as directed. Prepares materials for presentations and participates in design reviews, technical interchange and related meetings.
REQUIREMENTS
Education: BS in Engineering or major science (i.e., math or physics).

Certification: Registration as a Professional Engineer or certification as a Safety
Professional is highly desirable.

Experience: 7 or more years of system safety engineering experience involving system and facility safety engineering analyses and risk assessments in system/facility engineering or five years systems safety engineering with emphasis on safety analysis. In lieu of degree and 7 years experience, 15 years of directly related work experience may be substituted.
