THE ROLE

Join Netflix and help design and build server infrastructure that ensures our customers receive content bits as quickly as possible, while minimizing cost of deployment and maintenance at the same time. The work you do as part of a small cross-functional team will be at the cutting edge of technology, and will have a dramatic impact on the future of Netflix and entertainment distribution.

We are looking for a senior-level or staff-level engineer who has a background in building scalable systems, and optimizing throughput by optimal use of resources. The successful candidate will be a self-motivated, intellectually curious individual who takes pride in developing software using modern development practices, but who is also able to code, measure and optimize down to the bare metal if necessary.

As a key contributor of our server team, you will be designing the algorithms and methods to use for serving terabytes of data per hour, help select the hardware components to use in production systems, and optimize the software to make best use of the available resources. You will conceive, articulate and implement key strategic logic, and own it through the full software life cycle.

QUALIFICATIONS

10+ years of relevant software development experience
Solid experience with server development, performance optimization and deployment in an UNIX / Linux environment
Knowledge of UNIX / Linux kernel internals, and system call-level programming
Knowledge of operation and performance characteristics of server hardware components (processors, caches, disk and network subsystems, etc.)
Expert in C/C++ programmingFamiliar and comfortable with modern software engineering practicesExperience with Java programming is a plus
Solid math background is a plus

EDUCATION

A Bachelors or Masters in Computer Science or equivalent engineering
