Senior Software Engineer

This position supports the development lead in the refinement of departmental processes. Plays a key role in the design and implementation of Java/J2EE applications. Participates in all phases of the application development process. Collaborates with software engineers and others to create solid technical designs, and robust, maintainable implementations. Provides technical leadership and mentoring to less experienced members of the development team. Candidate must be a team player, and must work well with cross-functional teams.This position operates with minimal supervision, and comes with the expectation that the Senior Software Engineer will seek upper management assistance as necessary. By it’s nature, the work involves priority changes and interruptions, and thus requires maximum flexibility.Essential Functions Work with representatives from a variety of Cobalt departments, clients, and third party vendors to define/refine project requirements.
Participate in the creation of project sizing estimates as well as detailed software development plans.
Implement software projects using Java/J2EE, JSP, Struts, JDBC, EJB, Perl, SQL, PL/SQL, and related technologies.
Work with team lead to coordinate development activities with other groups at Cobalt including DB Architecture, Configuration Management, QA, and IT.
Assist with generating QA test plans. Ensure the application/code is high-quality and testable.
Participate in the development and review of technical documents (Software Architecture and Design documents).Actively work to improve quality and efficiency by evaluating policies/procedures and suggesting improvements.
Serve as a technical resource and mentor to less senior members of the development team.Required SkillsBachelor of Science degree required (CS or MIS pref.)
5+ years experience in software development, specifically web application development. (Java, J2EE, XML, and related technologies).
3+ years experience with relational database technologies, including SQL.
Demonstrated planning, analysis, and estimation skills.
Demonstrated communication and collaboration skills.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and multi-task.
Experience interacting with both technical and non-technical personnel is required.Based in Seattle, Cobalt has offices in Detroit; Columbus, Ohio; Redwood City, California; and Bangalore, India.
