Senior SQL Server (2000 & 2005) Database Administrator (DBA)
The Senior Database Administrator is an expert in database technology who supports all of the company’s da-tabase requirements. He/she is also an evangelist of database technology, providing technical support and spreading best practices to the rest of the department’s teams. Provides DBA technical leadership within IT. Performs all database administration tasks, including script and schema development, performance monitoring and tuning, routine and ad-hoc maintenance, data access configuration, etc. as required by the company through established policies, procedures and best practices, in order to maximize the benefits derived from the company’s information assets, at the same time ensuring their integrity. The Senior Database Administrator posses expert knowledge and skills in all or a majority of the database technologies used in the installation.
Responsibilities:
ØInstalls and configures RDBMS software
ØDesigns data architectures based on user requirements, both for transactional and decision-support data-bases
ØPerforms systems analysis and design in the data tier by using relational, dimensional and/or object model-ing
ØPerforms analysis of business requirements to be incorporated in the architecture and design of database solutions
ØDesigns and creates databases and database objects
ØImports data and exports data from databases
ØBacks up and restores databases and transaction logs
ØDesigns, setups, manages and troubleshoots replication solutions
ØDesigns, setups, manages and troubleshoots disaster recovery solutions such as clustering, log-shipping and backups
ØConfigures database servers for distributed transactions
ØManages database server security
ØSets up and manages operators, alerts and e-mail notifications
ØConfigures client and server network features for the RDBMS
ØAutomates administrative tasks, create, manage and troubleshoot batch jobs.
ØMonitors database server performance; interpret performance monitoring counters
ØTunes the database server and SQL code for performance
ØTraces user activity in the database server.
ØWrites stored procedures and SQL batches as required
ØMentors other DBA’s, application/report developers, business analysts and user analysts on the correct use of SQL and database facilities
ØCollaborates in the in-house development of applications by providing expert guidance in database tech-nology.
ØUses OLAP tools to implement data warehousing solutions
ØSelects and recommends hardware and software for the database environment
ØAssigns/Reassigns disk volumes from an EMC Symmetrix SAN
ØProvides 24 x 7 x 365 on-call support on a rotation basis.
ØContinues education regarding changes and trends in computing technologies, database administration, and reporting requirements in healthcare
ØTravels as necessary to develop, implement, and manage Database Administration at SAI affiliates na-tionwide
ØLeads projects involving other DBA’s.
REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge and Skills:
The Database Administrator should be able to complete successfully and with top quality the tasks defined un-der “Responsibilities”. In addition, should have:
ØExtensive experience with core software applications, including Word, Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio and Project.

Education and Work Experience:
Master’s degree of Science or in closely related field is preferred, although an equivalent combination of formal education and experience may substitute for a degree. Study in management information systems, computer science or similar discipline also strongly preferred Experience in database development/administration, ap-plications development and reporting. A minimum of four years of database work experience (2 of which lead-ing technical personnel) or any combination of academic education, professional training, or work experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position are required. A minimum of four years of application development experience. Experience with MS SQL Server 7.0 and 2000, MS Access, Excel, Visual Source Safe, and Erwin or other data modeling tools. Vendor certification(s) as Database Administrator in the RDBMSs to use. Additional vendor certification in other RDBMSs such as Oracle, DB2, MCSD and/or MCSE. Experience in different computer platforms in addition to Wintel (such as Unix, mainframe, minicomputer, etc.) Experience in using major systems development methodologies, such as Method/1, Information Engineering or similar. Experience with programming languages other than T-SQL (VBScript, Visual Basic 6.0, Visual Basic .Net, C++, C#, ASP/HTML, XML, etc.) Experience with healthcare information systems and managed health-care business needs. Experience with QCSI’s products.
