Senior Mine Engineer

Company: North America Mining Job Function: Engineering And Architectural Job Description: Major Responsibilities Develops complex engineering studies of new technology to test applicability to PDMC needs.Participates in engineering feasibility studies to define proper implementation of appropriate technology related to mining processes.Prepares detailed cost estimates for studies and implementation programs.Seeks new technology through independent research, networking with other mining professionals and engineers from outside the mining arena.May represent the MTG on company sponsored steering teams, such as PDMC Mill Operations, Refinery Operations, etc.Performs other duties as required.Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Mining or Geological Engineering. Advanced degree or Professional Engineering (PE) Certification preferred.Seven (7) or more years mining engineering experienceKnowledge of the principles and practices of engineering.Able to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions.Skilled in managing large/complex engineering projects.Able to evaluate and implement new methods and techniques for operational improvement.Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions. Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.Preferred Qualifications
Criteria/Conditions(specific background and skills) Work is in a mine or manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see.Employee could be require to travel up to 50% of the time, related to testing and implementation of projects. Could include limited international travel.Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hart hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required.Phelps Dodge promotes a drug/alcohol free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment drug testing and on-going random drug testing.~cb~
