Senior Manager Systems Engineer
JOB TITLE: Senior Manager Systems Engineer Job Descritption: Manages top network engineers responsible for the day to day engineering tasks associated with supporting Deltacom’s voice, ATM/FR, transport, and IP network . Partners with product development for new products and services. Provides input to the technical direction of the organization to senior level management. Strong focus on designs that take the cost out of the network particularly in regards to leased circuit costs and maintenance expense. Design level expertise in the following areas: IP Inter networking, Switching, ATM/Frame Relay, Ethernet, WAN expertise, Network Management, Voice Technologies, SS7, Security, and Wireless. Strong background and experience required in the following areeas: TCP/IP, MGCP, SIP, MPLS, OSPF, and BGP. Large-scale and carrier class network design experience. Development of network design documents and technology white papers. Test, verify, and assess new technologies. Knowledge of new technologies piloting, implementation, customer acceptance strategy, operational process and procedures for the sector and strong cross protocol platform experience in several of the following areas: SS7, H.323, IP, ATM, Ethernet 802.3, and TR303. Understands business case practice and knowledge company/industry wide. Large project and team leadership experience. Advanced project management skills. Ability to solve problems across multiple technologies and solutions. Interacts with internal and external organization to drive solution success. Capital budget preparation and execution. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Directly manages top grade engineers of different skill set and function. Carries out management responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE MS or BS required with 12+ years of experience in a network engineering or telecommunications support environment LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general technical procedures and memos. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from customers, upper management and his peers. Ability to communicate effectively on the phone is a must. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, commissions and proportions. Ability to apply concepts to practical situations, i.e. budget, purchase orders, and contracts. REASONING ABILITY Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Cisco Certified Internetworking Expert (CCIE) preffered.
