Senior Equipment Engineer

This position provides both technical expertise and leadership in the areas of new capital projects, automated manufacturing equipment installations, facility/utility improvements, and cost reduction initiatives. This position provides and supports the proper execution of validation and certification for the equipment and ensures that they comply with all applicable GMP, regulatory, safety, and environmental requirements.Major Responsibilities:1. Core engineering responsibilities associated with specifying, purchasing, installing, and commissioning automated manufacturing equipment including fillers, retort sterilizers, bottle cappers, bottle dryers, labelers, bottle and packaging conveying systems, overwrappers, casepackers, and palletizers. Identify equipment problem areas and make improvements through the use of innovative concepts and technologies.2. Identify and apply new technology equipment and designs to improve or replace obsolete and underperforming manufacturing primary and secondary packaging equipment in plant operations.3. Manage all aspects of the capital project planning process including development of project scope documents, RCEs, design packages, contractor bid packages, project budgetary estimates and project schedules.4. Direct the efforts and work of internal and external engineers, technicians, other resources associated with core projects or assigned tasks.5. Provide interface with plant operations department managers, R&D, Division Engineering and other Abbott groups necessary to complete project or department tasks.6. Ensures that the manufacturing equipment and installations comply with all applicable GMP, regulatory, safety and environment requirements.The Senior Engineer is accountable for all aspects of any project assignments including project budget, project schedule, employee relations, contract administration, equipment specification and purchases, construction, installation, startup, validation and training of personnel.Qualifications
Requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in the food, pharmaceutical, or consumer goods packaging equipment industry. This position requires a high degree of technical expertise and familiarization with automated mechanical filling / packaging equipment including experience in specifying, purchasing, installing, and commissioning of such equipment.A thorough understanding and knowledge of mechanical/process/packaging equipment operation, setup and troubleshooting are needed to succeed in this position. Must be a self-starter and able to function in various roles from individual contributor to project team leader. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required, along with the ability to work in a changing environment that requires teamwork and collaboration.
