Role of Engineers includes architecture, design and maintenance of data center infrastructure and customer environments or “sites” as part of a managed hosting solution. Daily responsibilities include providing top level escalation support for SAVVIS Hosting Operations Engineers and SAVVIS hosting/Plantinum support customers in their Sybase and Oracle DB Environment.

Job Description
The Senior. Database Administrator (Sr. DBA) will be part of the Global Information Management team, which is responsible for all the aspects of database administration and data modeling, code changes on production environments. He or she will be responsible for installation, implementation High availability DB environment and doing troubleshooting of highly critical production env. with 99.99% uptime. He/She will also be doing database performance tuning and capacity planning practice. This person will work closely with other DBAs as well as application, systems operations and engineering teams. Sr. DBA will be working in majority with Sybase 15.x on Linux and Oracle 10g/RAC on Linux/Solaris/windows2003 platforms.

Position Objectives and responsibilities
Maintain 99.999% availability for all Savvis Hosting products and infrastructureInterface with other central organizations to improve and implement process, procedures and automation.Pro-active and reactive performance analysis, monitoring, troubleshooting and resolution of issues.Regular database capacity planning related to database growth and system utilization, trend analysis and predicting future database resource requirements.Provide 24 x 7 escalation support for Sybase and Oracle environment for assigned accountsParticipating in a rotating on-call schedule.Provide fourth level escalation support for Savvis Support CenterProvide Hosting Professional Services for customers with requirements that go beyond the normal scope of workWorking closely with other team leads and their technical teams to ensure delivery of database services within the performance targets set. Defining and implementing consistent standards across systems. Defining database configuration standards related to performance and sizing for both transactional and data warehouse databases.Mentoring and knowledge transfer to other DBAs.Strong knowledge of Unix shell or Perl scripting languages.Quick Learner and strong listening and communication skills.Self Starter who can work in mission critical environment without any supervision

Required skills:

SYBASE RDBMS:
6+ years of experience as Production Sybase Database Administrator with versions 12.x and higher and Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise.Thorough knowledge of Sybase RDBMS 12.x thru 15.x in 24x7x365 production environment.Expert in backup, recovery of Sybase database including multiples ways of recovering master databaseStrong Sybase Database troubleshooting skills without any 3rd party tools.Very well conversant with DBCC and similar diagnosis and troubleshooting tools/utilities.Extremely proficient with the implementation of Relational Databases on Sybase Conduct database administrative work, Manage security policy, Profiles, Server Tuning, Backups & Recovery policies.Capacity planning, network connectivity configuration and troubleshooting for Sybase database server.Good knowledge of TCP/IP, SAN, RAID technologies.Proficient in SQL and good knowledge in stored packages and procedures.

Oracle RDBMS:
Thorough knowledge of Oracle RDBMS 9i and 10g environments.5+ years parallel experience in Oracle Database Administration/support in Oracle RDBMS 8i/9i and 10g in 24x7x365 production environment.About 1+ years of parallel experience in setting up and maintaining production Oracle RAC env. 9i/10g.Strong Database and RAC implementations experience and troubleshooting skills in mission critical Environment.Setting up and maintaining DataGuard on 9i/10g env. with MAA.Strong knowledge of Oracle Database Tuning and using statspack.Demonstrated, in-depth knowledge of database internals and data structures.Strong knowledge of SQL/SQL*Plus and strong understanding of PL/SQL and stored procedures/pkgs.Strong Knowledge of Database Backup and recovery using RMAN and logical backups.

Desired skills:
ASE administrator Professional Certification.OCP in 9i and/or 10g.2+ years of Database Administration in SQL Server 2000.Knowledge of stored procedures, PL/SQL in Oracle and Sybase.Data Replication / standby database technology.Veritas HA Cluster Servers.Basic RH/Linux or Solaris Administration and Windows 2000/2003 Sys. Admin.Knowledge and understanding of Local and Wide Area Networking.Oracle FailSafe 3.x implementation and administration.Understanding of various 3rd party DB monitoring and administration tools.Understanding of OEM and Oracle Grid in 9i and 10g.SAN storage and ASM/OCFS/VFS.

Education or Equivalent Experience:
Four years college degree in copmuter science or equivalent
