R&D Manager

Position Description:
R&D Manager with scientific background to drive and support product development activities in the areas of virus removal and virus inactivation. The candidate will be responsible for defining project objectives, establishing timelines, and supporting laboratory scientists and technicians in successful execution of research related to virus purification and detection. The candidate will produce written reports and presentations for internal and external customers. The candidate will also present project reviews to all levels of technical management.Position Responsibilities:
Directs the activities of a scientific group in the research and/or development of an organization's products, projects and programs. Conducts and collaborates with others on basic research and development relevant to long-term objectives and concerns. Writes and reviews manuscripts for publication. Develops strategies to ensure effective achievement of scientific objectives. Monitors and evaluates completion of tasks and projects. May develop budgets for capital expenditures and labor. . Responsible for the management and professional development of the research group. Interfaces with various departments. Uses professional concepts to contribute to the development of company concepts and principles and to achieve objectives in creative and effective ways.Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
First level manager who manages exempt employees and/or subordinate supervisors of non-exempt employees who exercise significant latitude and independence. Functions as advisor to unit regarding projects, tasks, and typically is involved in daily operations only to meet deadlines or resolve complex problems. Assignments are both task and objective-oriented
problems are typically diverse scope. Recommends modifications to operating policies. Develops and administers budgets, schedules, and performance requirements. Erroneous decisions would normally cause serious delays in projects resulting in considerable expenditure. Work is reviewed against objectives.Qualifications:
Background in Virology, Microbiology or related discipline: BS and 7+ years, MS and 5+ years, or PhD and 3+ years, with at least 2 years proven management experience in an industry setting. Experience in methods development and qualification desirable. Must be a team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
