Quality Control Manager for asphalt

Duties:
Assists in the administration and supervision of the laboratory (aggregate/asphalt), providing both field and technical leadership. Conducts routine and special laboratory testing. Schedules laboratory technicians and directs testing procedures, protocol and quality control techniques. Serves as a technical resource for the department, field operations personnel, and outside contractors and agencies.

50%: Generates asphalt hot mix designs; troubleshoots problems jobs and specifications; conducts analysis of asphalt hot mix specifications; tests and reviews aggregate qualities for mix conformance following ASTM and appropriate DOT procedures in order to meet our clients performance standards for quality products.

15%: Oversees critical, special, high visibility, or large projects such as FAA, FHWA, new asphalt cements, etc.

10%: Schedules department personnel for inspections to optimize team efficiency and effective performance. Conducts timely performance meetings with all direct reports to advise and motivate employee development and performance. Trains department personnel in proper testing procedures within the lab and in the field to optimize team efforts and efficient performance.

10%: Reviews, monitors, and maintains the test results of the data and adjusts blends when required for conformance with specifications or project special provisions.

15%: Keeps abreast of professional and technical developments of new specifications to maintain and improve knowledge and skills needed for superior job performance and to improve operational efficiencies by attending relevant technical meetings.
REQUIREMENTS
Keys:

2 years of college or its equivalent is required

five to ten years of experience in design, testing and evaluation of asphalt designs. Working knowledge of mineral admixtures and aggregate properties is required.

Working knowledge of construction management. Working knowledge of aggregate, asphalt plant operations, Caltrans, AASHTO and ASTM testing procedures. Working knowledge of general aphalt mix characteristics and various agency specifications in regard to production materials and finished products. Must have the ability to perform material testing in an orderly, efficient and accurate manner. Must have strong verbal and technical writing skills to communicate effectively on technical matters. Must have the ability to interface with plant production personnel, plant managers, contracts and agency representatives. Strong computer skills are required. Skills in general statistical analysis, math and engineering concepts are preferred.

Takes responsibility for customer relationships. Results Oriented: Sets challenging goals (individual and organizational) and tracks performance, and ensures that all projects/tasks are completed on schedule and within budget.
Be able to Communicates clearly and listens carefully in an open, candid and consistent manner.
Establishes trust with team members, stating clear expectations and accountabilities. Recognizes group morale and acts to protect or build as necessary.

Be able to supervise the following: Laboratory
Technical Service Specialist. Senior Lab Tech and
Lab Techs.
