QA Automation Engineer

In support of the Blackboard SDLC, the QA Engineer confers with their team’s product analyst and lead software engineer to provide scheduling estimates for testing the new feature set. Throughout development, QA engineer may write and update test cases, along with creating appropriate tools, utilities, and automation scripts that assists in functional testing and to create test data. Each of these tasks requires coordinating with the teamed product analyst, software engineers, and QA analyst. Additionally, QA Engineer may meet with internal and external clients in an effort to better understand how a feature will be used. Full-tilt functional and regression testing is performed by a distinct group; the QA Engineer supports testing by reviewing and assisting to prioritizes the bugs returned from testing.

Ultimately, the QA Engineer works to ensure that the product meets specified requirements, working as an integral member on an agile team consisting of the QA analysts alongside product analysts, architects and engineers. Effective communication and collaboration is essential to an analyst’s success.

The essential duties and responsibilities for this position include:
60% Performs somewhat complex product design, system analysis, and programming activities on applications software which may require some research:
•Performs design, implementation and maintenance of single product modules/sub-systems or on lower level issues of multiple products.
•Prepares technical documentation of product sub-systems.
•Conducts the unit testing and integration testing for functionality and limits.

30% Performs somewhat complex bug verification, release testing and beta support for assigned products. Researches problems discovered by QA or Product Support and develop solutions to the problems.

10% Researches and understands the marketing requirements for a product, including target environment, performance criteria and competitive issues.

In addition, will:
•Develop effective test cases in accordance with Bb processes for technical components/modules
•Develop a detailed understanding of how and why clients use the application
•Help ensure overall product quality
•Effectively collaborate and communicate with others
•Become an expert her/his product features/functionality
•Create and manages testing schedule
REQUIREMENTS
•Typically requires one to three years of technical experience in product design, product development, or product support
•Experience with a SDLC
•Experience with Java, java script, Windows and Unix shell scripting, SQL – PL/SQL, and commercial automation products such as Borland SilkTest, SilkPerformer, Mercury LoadRunner, or others
•Excellent writing and communication skills
•Strong analytic skills
•Familiarity with issue tracking, testing techniques and operating systems
•Familiarity with automated testing and techniques
•Experience with accessibility and /or security testing a plus
