Project/Mechanical Engineer

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Project/Mechanical Engineer will support the design, development, and installation of underwater cable systems, pressure housings, buoys, and mooring systems. Projects will primarily focus on the design and deployment of underwater cable systems for transmitting underwater acoustic hydrophone data. Additionally, the position may involve development efforts for renewable energy systems, based on ocean tides and wave energy, and the development of buoy-based tsunami detection and warning systems. Will perform in a lead engineer role, with responsibility for project success and design compliance to customer requirements and schedule. The Project/Mechanical Engineer will provide technical leadership to the mechanical design team, devise solutions to technical problems, brief managers on project status, provide direction to engineering staff, and review design documentation for release to production. Will review proposed Engineering Changes and Change Notices, environmental qualification testing of equipment to customer requirements, and review of deliverables prepared by staff and other contractors to determine if the content is sufficient to meet the requirements of the customer. Supervision is limited to instructions and discussions covering basic requirements for the work assigned and to review of progress of work. Completed assignments are presented to the Program Manager for review and approval. May manage and be responsible for staff development and supervision.
REQUIREMENTS
REQUIRED EDUCATION/SKILLS: Bachelor's degree in engineering discipline, 6+ years of related experience. Experience in the design, development, and installation of underwater and maritime equipment and systems. A thorough knowledge and understanding of mechanical engineering design, design for manufacturability, configuration management and documentation procedures. Directly applicable experience in the support of maritime projects in an engineering role. Ability to express self effectively both orally and in writing. Computer proficiency required.

DESIRED SKILLS: Proficiency using AutoCAD and Microsoft Office products.
