This is a principal level position within the IP Engineering group reporting to the Manager of Network and Service Analysis. The Network and Service Analysis group has responsibility for pro-active network analysis of Comcast's nationwide IP network. Evaluate network modeling and analysis tools to accomplish goals.
Develop data collection and measurement techniques to understand traffic flows, usage trends, service quality and overall network health.
Analyze traffic flows, service usage patterns, network device health and forecasted network growth to optimize infrastructure.
Drive measurement and problem identification methodologies into standard operational business procedures for use by Operations Support personnel.
Maintain sound knowledge of network standards and practices including IEEE, IETF, ISO, ITU-T, ISAC, ANSI, NIST (ANTD).
May be expected to design, implement and configure IP routing protocols such as BGP-4 and OSPF.
Provide cost analysis and feasibility studies for projects and proposed network designs.
Provide technical tier 5 support during the rollout of new services as required.

Education:
Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. The equivalent in related work experience and self study may be substituted.
A CCIE or equivalent certification is a plus.
Experience:
At least 5 yrs of direct experience with large scale TCP/IP router based networks in an ISP or equivalent environment.
Candidate is required to have a strong TCP/IP background. Must have a demonstrable understanding of routing protocols (RIP, OSPF, BGP) and layer 3 switching and service technologies. Knowledge of CIDR, BFD, UDLR, HSRP, MPLS, QoS, DHCP, DNS will be a plus.
Broad knowledge of Cisco routers and switches 6509/7609 preferred.
Must understand the mechanics of network transmission at all 7 layers of the OSI model.
