Principal Hardware Design Engineer

Duties and responsibilities:
1. A key contributor of circuit designs for the Engineering Group.
2. Designs circuits to support low frequency analog, digital and DSP based modules and/or products.
3. Write simple firmware to support design validation.
4. Provide mentoring and training to junior members of the staff.
5. Provide project leadership and direction.
6. Responsible for the accurate and timely dissemination of technical information related to product designs.
7. As required, coordinates resource requirements and projects with the group manager.
8. Actively participates in staff meetings and contributes in the decision making process.
9. Is responsible for maintaining a personal schedule of deliverables agreed to for any given project.
10. Is a liaison between engineering, manufacturing and customer service, concerning designs.
11. May be asked to participate in remedial efforts, in regards to released and/or supported products and systems.
12. Perform other reasonable duties that may be assigned by management.

14. Adhere to all policies and procedures including work rules, safety standards and departmental operating procedures.
15. There are supervisory responsibilities, you must be able to work and use independent judgment; set priorities for and assigned tasks to subordinates; and be responsible for the day-to-day operation of group or department.
REQUIREMENTS
Key requirements: Minimum 10 years direct experience in the field of Hardware (HW, H/W) design. Experience in CAD-based systems (electronic and/or mechanical). The programs used in the department include; Eagleware; Protel; Pspice, Laboratory tools & soldering equipment. Familiarity with military communications products. Familiarity with ISO 9001.

BA or BS degree required, MS/MA or PhD preferred.

Summary: Responsible for the design of circuits and assemblies to be incorporated into military communications products. Must be able to work independently with minimum supervision and direction. Must be able to model using computerized modeling techniques, create schematics, breadboard and test their designs and theorems. Must be able to defend your design criteria and help integrate your work into the overall product.

Circuits typically dealt with include, audio amplifiers and filters, power supplies, microcontrollers and DSP based PCBs.

Must be familiar with current and emerging design methodologies, new components, and techniques.

Must have experience in system and module level design; and be capable of leading a major hardware development effort.

Must be familiar with basic manufacturing techniques, design manufacturability, cost control (as it applies to your design) and time to market concerns. Must be comfortable in a team environment working with co-workers above and below knowledge level.
