Powertrain Staff Engineer
We are currently seeking a Powertrain Staff Engineer who will be responsible for engine design related activities in support of all proprietary engines; Lead and execute design activities of a new engine from concept to production to achieve product objectives within a specified time schedule; Lead and execute all design related activities associated with delivering a new engine in support of all the product group requirements; Develop a balanced approach between individual group needs and overall corporate needs; Apply basic engine sizing techniques to create functional layouts through to the detailed component design phase; Lead in the decision process for the selection of engineering partners for various engine systems and components; Work closely with the product groups as new engine requirements are defined to lead them through the engineering tradeoffs associated with various engine configurations; Support all design related component styling, purchasing, servicing and manufacturing issues with emphasis on quality, reliability, timely delivery, weight and cost; Responsible for the preparation and presentation of formal design reviews in support of individual projects; Responsible for all modeling and drafting activities using Pro/Engineer engineering software while ensuring conformance to the ASME 14.5M-1994 standard; Able to oversee all analytical substantiation activities in support of structural, thermal, system dynamics, and fluid dynamics; Drive continuous process improvement across the design organization; The goal is to improve product quality while decreasing product development cycle time and cost.~cb~
REQUIREMENTS
The successful candidate will have a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related curriculum, a Masters degree is preferred. The candidate will have a minimum of 12 years of design related experience; Experience with designing all engine systems including power generation, power conversion, induction, exhaust, lubrication and cooling; Knowledge of all engine related component manufacturing processes such as castings, forgings, machining, molding, stampings, heat treating, plating, painting, and powder metal; Experience in the selection of materials, material properties, and processes best suited for the application; High level of knowledge applying Design for Manufacturing and Failure modes and Effects techniques; CAD experience, prefer experience using Pro/Engineer design software; GD&T, FMEA, and dimensional stack-ups; Superior technical knowledge as demonstrated by academic experience and broad practical experience in engine design; Proven analytical skills; Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Good strategic vision and business knowledge; Demonstrate ability to lead major process change in a way that enhances overall corporate performance; High level of "people skills" and able to lead in a team environment; Fast paced office environment; Travel as needed (less than 10%).
