Power Electronics Project Engineer

This is an engineering position in Northern Power’s Product Development group. In this position you will be responsible for managing creative and challenging product development and applied R&D projects to a schedule and a budget. You will be working in a team setting to develop technology and apply advanced power electronics solutions to the rapidly expanding distributed generation (DG) market. You will be working with technologies such as wind turbines, ultra-capacitors, flywheels, photovoltaics, fuel cells and micro-turbines.Responsibilities:
Power converter modeling and analysis
Power converter design
Controls analysis and design
Project engineering
Project planning
Engineering resource coordination
Specifying components and systems
R&D report generation
Represent Northern Power at conferences and government functions
REQUIREMENTS
MSEE or higher with strong background in Power Electronics
Theoretical and practical knowledge of power electronics design and application
Good engineering communications and documentation skills
The ability to work in a team environment on a number of projects at once
The ability to learn new concepts quickly
Must be authorized to work in the U.S.A, now and in the future (this position does not meet requirements for company sponsorship of OPT or H1-B visas)Preferred Qualifications:
Two or more years experience designing power conversion systems in a commercial/industrial setting
Direct design experience with power converters in the 50kW to 2000kW power range
Experience with modeling and designing magnetics
Real time controls and embedded DSP programming of power converters
Experience with switchgear and utility interconnection issues
Power system coordination
Distributed generation interconnection (IEEE 1547)
Power quality and EMI design and testing
