Portal Developer

Overall Responsibilities:

This position will be providing support for the portal in use by member companies of WR Berkley Corporation using the latest version of BEA Aqualogic (formerly known as Plumtree Portal). This will include:
• Helping WR Berkley companies move their organizations forward through the use of technology;
• Providing second line application support and administration, as well as diagnosing and resolving day-to-day development issues;
• Designing, developing, integrating and deploying portlet, crawler, profile, and authentication web services;
• Designing and developing portlets using ASP.Net technology for integration and delivery within the portal; and
• Translating customer needs into technical and functional requirements.

Key Accountabilities:

• Providing outstanding customer service to the users of the portal including Portal Team members
• Providing technical assistance and expertise in pursuit of stable, productive, satisfying solutions
• Assisting in the deployment of portal at WRBC companies
• Troubleshooting BEA/Plumtree portal components/applications across all tiers, including the client, web-server, web services and database tiers
• Providing creative, efficient solution advice to Portal Team Lead
• Implementing customer or Portal Team requirements
• Planning and development of new applications as required by Portal Team Lead
• Training and documentation
• Fixing bugs, performing software upgrades
• Providing rotating on-call support of production systems.
• Educating front-line support
• Minimal travel is anticipated. Est. 15%
REQUIREMENTS
Required Experience:

• 2+ years technical background in application development and support
• Prior experience with standard web languages/technologies, including HTML, JavaScript, CSS, ASP.Net and/or Java, C#
• SQL/Relational Database experience
• Prior experience with the BEA/Plumtree portal and associated product suite
• Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
• Ability to work independently and get results
• Working in an IT development and support role – 2 years

Preferred Experience:
• P&C Insurance Industry knowledge

Education/Skills:

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or Computer Science or the equivalent work experience.
