Platform Analyst I

The UNIX Platform Analyst position within Unix Technical Services is responsible for the installation, configuration, and support of the UNIX Operating System platform at International Paper. The position provides technical consulting in the areas of OS operation and server configuration. The Technical Services group is responsible for the availability and performance of systems, providing customers with a high performance, stable, secure, and recoverable OS environment for all applications. • Support Solaris and AIX high performance / high availability environment. • Install and assist with the installation of software required for the end-use application. • Research and recommend software products to assist with the management and availability of these systems. • Work with other IT Groups to interface these systems as required to the existing infrastructure and network. • Consult with the Storage Management group to provide high performance configurations and backup to the Unix platform. • Monitor the operation of the OS and recommend improvements Current environment consists of 200+ mid to large SUN Servers, 50+ small to large IBM Servers. These systems range in size from a SUN E6800 with multiple system boards and domains to IBM P-Series desk-side servers with single processors. The distributed environment consists of 60 midsize IBM servers. The server platforms provide a consistent, secure, and recoverable environment for applications such as SAP, Oracle, FileNet, TSM, and others. This position has responsibility to some degree for support of all of these servers, including 24X7 on-call support on a rotated basis.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor or Technical degree. A candidate for this position should have knowledge of large scale SUN/Solaris and IBM/AIX Operating Systems, including performance, configuration and monitoring. SUN, EMC, and IBM hardware experience is also required.
