Planning Engineer (Corporate Planning)

Currently Seminole Electric Cooperative Inc. is accepting applications for Planning Engineer, a challenging position responsible for the planning of electric generation facilities to meet Seminole's rapid customer growth in Florida.

Seminole Electric Cooperative Inc. is a generation and transmission cooperative located in Tampa, Florida. Approximately 1.6 million individuals and businesses in 47 of Florida's counties rely on Seminole and its 10 member distribution systems for their electric power. Robust population growth in Florida and particularly in Seminole's service territory will necessitate the addition of over 4,000 MW of new generating capability over the next decade.

Seminole's Planning Engineer is integrally involved in the planning activities, analyses, and decisions involved meeting this system growth. Essential Functions:

Evaluation of future generation requirements, analysis of alternative technologies, and conduct of economic and risk-related studies comparing various planning scenarios.

Evaluation among self-build and purchased power alternatives utilizing production costing tools. Training can be provided for specific tools used by company.

Participation in regional and national reliability organizations, representing company interests.

Other Functions:

Monitors technological developments and regulatory changes in the electric industry.

Responsible for liaison with electric utility planning personnel from other utilities and regional reliability organizations, and associated reporting and information exchange.

Liaison with external consultants, software vendors, etc.

REQUIREMENTS
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. Requires five years experience in the power industry and pursuing registration as a Professional Engineer in Florida.

Knowledge of electric utility operations and proficiency with economic analysis techniques (e.g., spreadsheet analysis, production costing, engineering economics, etc.) Must have good communication skills and provide work direction to engineering assistants.

Normal office conditions. Travel to technical seminars, conferences and professional meetings may be required. Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle report.
