Performance Engineer

Evaluates plant equipment for optimum performance. Makes recommendations to improve performance, alerts plant to equipment problems, and tracks plant performance. Performs studies on plant equipment to determine remaining useful life of equipment, alternate operating procedures to conform to changing conditions and environmental regulations, and the cost of replacing or upgrading equipment. Makes recommendations on maintenance practices, new technologies to predict equipment failures, or new technologies to enhance equipment reliability and performance.
REQUIREMENTS
•Five years experience in a directly related position
•Have a thorough understanding of thermodynamic and heat transfer principles
•Field experience and background with related power equipment, systems, and plant performance is a plus.
•Requires understanding of power plant operations, including the interrelationship of engineering with operation and maintenance functions and familiarity with ASME Performance Test Codes (e.g., PTC 6.1, PTC 4.1, etc.), Power Piping Code, and Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code background is beneficial.
•Identifies the causes of new or unique problems
•Develops innovative and non-standard investigational methods
•Investigates and analyzes complex disturbances and failures
•Recommends cause and correction to eliminate the problem; follows up to ensure problem is solved
•Coordinates activities with management, co-workers and individuals in different work units, customers and/or vendors; obtains and provides schedules, time estimates and critical path items; monitors quality and timeliness
•Anticipates change and take proactive steps to prevent problems
•Develop processes or services to encourage continuous improvement, rational risk-taking and accountability to achieve results
•Creates, modifies, checks or reviews engineering designs based on specifications, requirements, and constraints; reviews schematics, flow diagrams, diagrams, descriptions and plan to confirm compliance with specifications and requirements and verify correct operation.
•Assists with relevant input to the annual budget
•Provides technical support in bid preparation specifications, evaluation of bid proposals, and monitoring contractor work to assure contract compliance
•Oversees the fuel quantity and quality received and burned at the plant
•Good oral and written communications skills,
•Strong planning capabilities and the skills to analyze and interpret data to make sound recommendations to the Operations Group Leader
