Operations Manager

Under the general direction of the Site Manager of the BASF Decatur Industrial Coatings Facility, the Operations Manager directs manufacturing operations of the Decatur site. The incumbent has overall responsibility for management of manufacturing operations and leadership of manufacturing personnel. The Operations Manager is a member of the site Leadership Team and has primarily responsibility for schedule compliance and final inspection and approval of finished goods. The incumbent is responsible for programs for continuous improvement and optimization of manufacturing operations. Assists in developing and implementing policies and performance standards for manufacturing in the areas of safety, hygiene, budgeting, cost control, environmental protection, product quality, cost reduction and efficiency improvement.  Leads the cross functional Daily Support Team to facilitate and monitor daily schedule compliance. Assures compliance with federal, state and local laws and corporate guidelines. REQUIREMENTS


 

¨       B.S. in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or other technical area and 8-10 years of manufacturing experience.

¨       Excellent leadership, interpersonal communication and organizational skills, with direct supervisory experience.

¨       Experience in motivating and interfacing with personnel at Group, Divisional and applicable Corporate levels.

¨       Must have a thorough knowledge of:

1.       Coatings manufacturing processes, equipment, instrumentation and chemistry.

2.       Management and budget control principles. 

3.       Industrial relations as applied to a Management Represented hourly workforce.

4.       Continuous improvement techniques and methods including; statistical techniques, SPC/SQC, DOE, FMEA, root cause analysis, and other six sigma tools.

5.       ISO 9000 quality system requirements.
