Offshore Geophysical Technician

Lafayette, LAGeophysical Technician operates and maintains high resolution geophysical and oceanographic survey equipment installed on rigs, barges and vessels, used for data acquisition and surveying in the marine environment.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Operates and maintains various geophysical equipment and assists the geophysical supervisor on board during the data acquisition phase of marine surveys.
Drives company vehicles between the Lafayette office and assigned docks and heliports.
Loads and unloads necessary equipment into company vehicles, installs equipment on vessels for data acquisition and surveying.
Performs assigned activities and special projects.

U.S. Citizen or permanent resident status.Education: Post high school digital electronics or industrial electronics or oceanography training in college, university, or vocational/technical setting.Experience: Industry experience in marine high-resolution data acquisition and navigation, military telecommunications or electronics, technical capacity in an industrial setting or other offshore experience.
Special Skills/Knowledge: Must be able to learn skills to reliably and accurately operate and maintain high-resolution geophysical and oceanographic survey equipment. Professionally represent FUGRO GEOSERVICES, INC. in the field, accommodating client and supervisor requests and assignments. As job experience grows be able to accomplish increasingly sophisticated assignments. Successfully complete offshore water survival training courses.Licenses/Certifications: Valid driver’s license with acceptable motor vehicle record. Be able to upgrade license to class D. Valid U.S. passport or ability to procure one when necessary.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

A person must be able to support their weight while holding on to a swing rope for approximately 10 seconds in order to successfully complete the task.Other physical requirements: Not be susceptible to motion sickness. Be able to negotiate stairs, ladders, narrow hall ways on necessary marine vessels, carrying equipment up to 60 lbs. Be able to travel in loaded helicopters with other passengers or equipment.Any safety factors related to physical abilities or limitations? Emergency situations may require speed and agility. Be able to maintain balance on heaving marine vessels in open seas. Be able to traverse open water on swinging rope from dock to vessel to platform or main structure.Working Conditions:90% of time will be spent working offshore, Small percentages of the time is used for special training and duties, pre-job meeting etc.Unusual demands:On call 24 hours a day, every day of the year, except for scheduled time off, vacation and excused absences. Must be able to report to the office within two hours from the time called.
Hazards Encountered:Working offshore in a relatively isolated location and potentially hazardous working conditions, exposed to the elements, etc. Medical and other professional assistance are not available at the job site, and substantial time lags occur traveling to the nearest site of medical or professional assistance.
