Network Engineer Senior Staff

Standard Job Description: Designs and plans network communications systems. Provides specifications and detailed schematics for network architecture. Provides specific detailed information for hardware and software selection, implementation techniques and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements. Conducts testing of network design. Maintains technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc. Evaluates and reports on new communications technologies to enhance capabilities of the network.

Typical Minimums: Bachelors degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 14 years or more of professional experience; or 12 years of professional experience with a related Masters degree. Considered an expert, authority in discipline.

Specific Job Description: The Network Engineer Lead will be responsible for the development of TSAT Network Requirements, Network Architecture / Design and Interface Requirements. The Network Engineer Lead will be a POC for providing the subject matter expertise (SME) in one or more of key network engineering domains (such as mobility, routing, traffic engineering, quality of service, policy based management or information assurance) for the TSAT Network Definition, Design and Development. The Network Engineer Lead will lead and mentor the technical efforts of up to 5 individuals. Lead the network requirements team in area of network expertise. Lead the development, analysis and evaluation of requirements Change Proposals. Support requirements engineering focus groups. Lead the network architecture team in area of network expertise. Lead the development and updates to TSAT Architecture/Design document and artifacts. Lead the Interface Requirements Definition in area of expertise. Provide domain expertise in the development of ICD deliverables. Support ICD working groups. Lead trade studies in the area of network expertise. Responsible for supporting risk mitigation activities in development of Network Architecture. Mentor other Network Engineering to support the growth of domain expertise. The individual must have experience in the following areas: - Accomplished Network Engineer with proven application experience - Expertise in one or more of the following disciplines: (mobility, routing, traffic engineering, quality of service, policy based management or information assurance) - Extensive systems engineering leadership experience in various roles - Experience developing complex plans involving multiple activities and variables - Experience in Risk & Opportunity Management - Decision analysis expertise - Must be able to work very effectively in a teaming environment - Must be able to develop and maintain trusting relationships with customer representatives - Must have extensive project management experience and be able to broker conflicting inputs.
