Network Engineer II/ GPRS Engineer

Purpose: TEKsystems has partnered with a client in Cincinnati to identify a Network Engineer II who is strong in GPRS for Direct Hire. A potential candidate would also need to have in depth knowledge TCP/IP.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

- Provide network administration as a member of the Network Engineering team. (40%)
- Responsible for assisting in the implementation of network designs that deliver performance, reliability and scalability. (25%)
- Represent Network Engineering on cross-functional product/project teams, in the development, launch and administration of data services. (20%)
- Work with Network Planning to manage growth plans by monitoring network performance and identifying capacity needs. (10%)
- Responsible for cross-training other members of the Network Engineering team to broaden the knowledge base within the team. (5%)


PREVIOUS JOB EXPERIENCE:

- Minimum of 3 years hands-on experience in engineering and administering IP networks.
- Previous duties configuring or administering GPRS Packet Core elements such as the SGSN, or GGSN, preferably Ericssons.
- Previous Duties as a Network Engineer, or Wireless Engineer a plus.


SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

- In depth knowledge of TCP/IP
- In debt knowledge GPRS operations and call flows and call traces.
- Working knowledge of the configuration and maintenance of routers, hubs, bridges, and switches.
- Experience with IP protocols including OSPF, BGP, LDP, MPLS, GTP, WAP, DNS, RADIUS, HTTP.
- Working knowledge of Transport technologies such as Ethernet, Frame Relay, and ATM.
- Experience with SS7 and MAP signaling.
- Solaris or other UNIX/LINUX/FreeBSD system Administration knowledge
- Inet Geoprobe Experience a plus.
- Experience with the configuration and troubleshooting of Cisco PIX firewalls and IPSEC tunnels.
- Working knowledge of the configuration of routers, ATM and Ethernet switches.
- Experience using network analysis, management and performance monitoring tools to evaluate product and service behaviors.
- Working experience with troubleshooting tools such as traceroute, dig, tcpdump/snoop, and packet analysis applications.
- Familiar with Juniper JunOS, and the J20 router.
- Familiar with MobileIP technologies and applications.
