A Network Specialist is a highly technical, entry-level position who will be responsible for completing small, well defined network design, engineering, configuration, and operational tasks and projects on TDS's combined voice/video/data network infrastructure.
Understands and follows established processes, and completes assigned work in accordance with established quality measures to Plan, Engineer, Implement, Optimize or Operate TDS's combined Voice/Video/Data network infrastructure.
Makes use of quality improvement techniques, and participates in process improvement and management activities.
Grow technical skills as they pertain to TDS's network infrastructure through a variety of mechanism including self-training, formal classes and coaching.
Utilizes vendor contact in accordance with TDS contractual obligations. Understands and initiates appropriate level of vendor use.
REQUIREMENTS
Required Qualifications:
Associate degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science or 4 years experience in Voice/Data/Video networking or related field.
Do you have at least 1+ year experience with TCP/IP technologies including (but not limited to) routing, sub-netting, multicast, tunneling, bridging, and an understanding of routing protocols (e.g., OSPF, BGP, etc.)?
Other Qualifications:
Technical:
Familiar with some copper and fiber termination equipment and methods
Requires proficiency in IP applications and concepts such as, but not limited to: telnet, FTP, HTTP, TFTP.
Comfortable with order management, inventory, and automation systems. Exposure to a UNIX system required.
Ability to travel as necessary if the needs of the business dictates.
If the needs of the business dictate, perform network tasks outside normally scheduled business hours to complete project work, provide on-call support and/or implement scheduled network changes.
Experience reading and interpreting graphs and charts.
Familiar and competent with the MS Office suite
Ability to follow established processes.
Ability to do basic troubleshooting resulting in a supportable root-cause hypothesis
Is familiar with the following areas and has a working technical knowledge in one or more:
Experienced copper and fiber termination equipment and methods
Familiar and competent with Broadband and narrowband access technologies xDSL,
Understanding of two or more of the following: T1, DS3, PRI, BRI, WiFi, WiMAX, PON, OCX.
Transport technologies including (but not limited to) SONET, ATM, Ethernet, POS, DWDM, WDM.
Voice Switching technologies including Legacy TDM and Softswitch technologies.
Additional TCP/IP technologies including MPLS, IP quality of service, traffic engineering, VoIP and IPTV. -Power Concepts associated with AC and DC power equipment and HVAC implementations in both cabinet and building applications.
Customer premises equipment such as: Routers, gateways, firewalls, transceivers
