NDT Engineer

Business Unit: GE Infrastructure, EnergyFunction: Engineering/ Product DevelopmentResponsibilities: * Provide leadership for nondestructive inspection systems, measurements, and techniques.
Train and qualify LES employees, suppliers and other service organizations to perform NDE per established procedures.
Design, specify, and develop automated, computerized real time NDT data acquisition and analysis systems.
Identify new technology products and services to increase sales and support existing initiatives.
Identify NDE solutions that will provide technical differentiation of Life Extension Services compared to competition.
Work with other GE components, and supplier base to rapidly field high technology inspection capabilities across the GE fleet.
Create and/or modify process specifications and instructions to ensure proper application of NDE methods and systems.
The NDE Engineer is responsible for applying NDE technology to develop and implement practical solutions to customers inspection needs.
These solutions will require cross-function teamwork with Materials and Processing Engineering, NPI as well as LES internal project development and completion.
Customers include GE Product Service Departments & Engineering groups, BAs, utilities, and industrial users of power generation equipment.
The NDE Engineer must also author and introduce technical papers and presentations which reflect these applications.
The successful candidate must oversee and manage the NDE certification program within LES.
REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications: * BS degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or Physics.
Certified Level III or equivalent in at least three NDE methods.
Minimum of eight years experience leading NDE projects to inspect power generation hardware (turbine/generators) with complete responsibility for all technical deliverables.
Knowledge of GE Energy Services products, customers and competitive environment.
Extensive experience with current NDE technology, computer hardware and software.
Experience in real time data acquisition, reduction, and analysis software development.
Experience specifying NDE sensors to the measurement requirements and interfacing scanners/test fixtures for computerized motion control.
Proven ability to write process specifications, lead NDE training classes and audit employees and suppliers.Desired: * MS degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or Physics.
Certification to ASNT Level III in UT, ET, RT, MT & PT preferred.
Knowledge of MVS rotating equipment inspection requirements and techniques.
BB/GB certification (GE Employees only).
Excellent analytical and project management skills.
Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
Willingness to travel 20-30% internationally and within the US.General: * This position is located in Schenectady, New York. Relocation will be provided.
