Molding Process Engineer

The Medical Products Division of W.L. Gore & Associates in Flagstaff, AZ is seeking a Molding Process Engineer to carry out engineering studies and changes in support of current commercialized products and/or new product development. The associate will coordinate the design and development of molded thermoplastic components and the development of new processes for those components. The molding operations will focus on insert molded components with some injection molded opportunities. This position will involve extensive team interactions in a variety of disciplines including engineering, quality, manufacturing, and development teams throughout the Medical Products Division. Activities in the scope of the position include but are not limited to:Installing, setting up, and operating vertical insert molding equipment
Writing and performing validations of equipment, processes, and product in accordance with FDA and ISO guidelines
Designing, executing, and analyzing experiments based on statistical techniques
Developing, troubleshooting and refining medical device manufacturing processes and equipment
Conceptualizing and instituting improvements to a medical product and its manufacturability
Driving the efficient scale-up of manufacturing processes
Developing and carrying out performance tests on a device to characterize and document its safety
Testing and evaluating prototype mold tooling
Design experience is necessary to enhance ability to develop processes
Documenting work via reports, technology notebooks, and design file entries
Writing procedures, training other associates, and assisting other technical associates
The successful candidate will also be capable of designing molding tooling and participating in the outsourcing and manufacture of that toolingQualifications
A degree in Science or Engineering is required. In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 5 years of experience in an engineering capacity in the medical device or pharmaceutical industry is required.
Hands on insert molding experience including tooling design and process development is required.
Ability to design molded components using qualified mold tool software. SolidWorks experience a plus.
Excellent written, oral and presentation skills are required.
Desirable attributes:
An advanced technical degree,
Previous hands-on experience in process, quality or reliability engineering,
Previous hands-on experience with medical products,
Willingness to travel periodically.
