Mine Manager

Manage, conduct and guide the Mine Operations and Maintenance Departments. Effectively organize, staff, and direct department activities to meet or exceed key objectives. Ensures that the Mine Operations and Maintenance Departments operate in a safe manner consistent with applicable federal, state, and local regulations as well as ASARCO policy.
·Directs the activities of the Mine Operations and Maintenance Supervisors in shops and field observing and discussing problems, solutions, and cost control.
·Maintains a competent and effective supervisor and hourly workforce through effective personnel management and labor relations techniques.
·Promotes improved performance of subordinates through ongoing training and communication of ideas, techniques, and policies.
·Ensure that all work practices comply with company, local, state, and federal safety standards.
·Reviews invoices for proper billing against company; approve all purchases, stocking of parts and spare part levels, warranties; special projects, new product research and engineering.
·Accountable for mine production, ore control and special engineering projects.
· Helps to resolve problems and manages the ore body to assure both short and long term viability.
·Develops the mine cost forecast for both the mine cost centers. Manages these costs and explains any cost variances to the forecast.
· Determines the mine equipment requirements and the necessary availability's and utilization's of the mine equipment. Negotiates equipment purchases and leases when necessary.
·Manages the Labor Agreement, hears and answers the third step grievances and holds disciplinary hearings for the most controversial infractions and makes disciplinary decisions.
·Establishes the manpower requirements for the Mine Operations and Maintenance Departments.
·Ensures a safe work environment through both personal example and support of the Asarco Ray Complex Safety Program. Participates in a monthly safety inspection and ensures subordinate compliance with the program.
REQUIREMENTS
Understanding of open-pit mine operations, mine planning, ore-control and maintenance of mining equipment. Strong background in the use and application of a large scale truck and shovel fleet. Well versed in applicable Federal and State Safety Regulations, specifically Sub part F of 30 CRF Federal Mine Regulations governing employees, equipment, training and supervision.
