Messaging Infrastructure Engineer / Lead Engineer

Our Investment Bank is one of the world’s top global investment banking and securities firms, providing a full spectrum of products to institutional and corporate clients, intermediaries, government and hedge funds worldwide.UBS Investment Bank is seeking a Messaging Infrastructure Engineer/Lead Engineer to be a member of the IT Production IMS (Infrastructure Managed Services) team. The Infrastructure Managed Services IMS team engineers, implement and supports a global managed application infrastructure for the cost-effective deployment and support of global enterprise applications. The current infrastructure is comprised of Apache HTTP Server, Oracle Portal & Internet Directory, Siemens DirX Meta-Directory, Documentum, IBM WebSphere Application Server [WAS], IBM WebSphere MQ [WMQ], webMethods, Tibco Rendezvous and Tibco EMS in addition to a significant amount of managed infrastructure code (internally developed code for reuse across the development community).The Enterprise Messaging team is responsible researching, proposing, evaluating, engineering, documenting and supporting (3rd line) the underlying messaging transports such as Tibco Rendezvous, Websphere MQ (formerly MQ Series), webMethods, Tibco EMS that are widely used throughout UBS IB. The team also provides consulting services to the business lines in arriving at a suitable solution for the business requirements. The team also defines and develops abstract APIs and other common infrastructure code layers for use across the development community. The team’s goal is to be a centre of expertise and knowledge for these technologies, managing their introduction, deployment, integration and subsequent use within UBS. As part of this initiative the team requires an infrastructure engineer / consultant to research, design, evaluate, engineer, and potentially aid in the development of messaging solutions within UBS. This person will also be expected to contribute in other areas such as designing/specifying/building other re-usable infrastructure components with the aim of reducing replicated effort across the UBS development community through the provision of common components.The successful candidates experience should include: Infrastructure engineering, architecture, design and consultancy. End-end process experience from vendor/product selection through to successful implementation Expertise in at least one messaging transport (Tibco Rendezvous, Websphere MQ (formerly MQ Series), WebMethods, Tibco EMS, Tibco SmartSockets or similar technology). Experience and working knowledge with JMS, JMS-compliant providers and J2EE is desirable Knowledge/experience of designing/implementing/architecting applications that interface to messaging products Experience in supporting applications in business critical production environments while working for a global organization. Experience in Java and C++ programming is desirable. REQUIREMENTS
Basic Qualifications:Minimum Requirements:
A Bachelors or Masters (Preferably computer science related degree).
Candidates must be organized, self-motivated, inquisitive, problem-solvers with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Knowledge of Messaging Concepts, JMS, J2EE Message Driven Beans (MDBs), Design patterns, Enterprise integration patterns, Multi-threading concepts, High availability systems, Transactions and preferably hands on experience of any messaging-related products is desirable. In addition to the messaging and market data products, exposure to the J2EE product stack would be useful.
Knowledge of the full lifecycle of product design, development, testing and management will be needed.
Consultancy with teams implementing this technology is a central aspect of the role; this will involve proactively establishing relationships with teams in the lines of business, facilitating the adoption/design/implementation from the messaging perspective, fostering best practice, mentoring.
Candidates must have a good understanding of configuration management, change management, testing procedures and be able to work to strict deadlines.
Java/C++ programming and Shell scripting skills are desirable.
Experience or knowledge of one or more of the following technologies/products is desirable: Portals, Websphere Application Server, IBM Rational Clearcase and Clearquest.
Working knowledge on Solaris, Linux and Win32 Operating Systems is desirable.
Java, C++ or UNIX related certification is desirable.
Predominantly based in Stamford, but must be prepared to travel (mainly short term trips) to London or other as expected in an organisation with global operations.
Financial Services experience desirable but not essential.
