Thoratec Corporation is a leading manufacturer of circulatory support products for use by patients with congestive heart failure. We sell Ventricular Assist Devices, or VAD’s, to virtually every leading heart transplant center in the world, marketing three out of the four VAD’s approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. We are also a leading provider of point-of-care blood diagnostic test systems.
We have an excellent opportunity for a Manufacturing Manager in our Corporate Headquarters located in Pleasanton, California. This individual will be responsible for managing any of the designated manufacturing operations. Plans, directs and coordinates the operations of one or more of the following: production, machinery, processing, equipment or packaging departments. Prioritizes production schedules based on inventory needs, new product introduction, equipment efficiency, labor availability and materials supply. Responsible for ensuring that products are produced on time and to specification. Establishes operating policies and procedures that affect subordinate organizational units. Interprets, executes, and recommends enhancements to organizational policies. Acts as an advisor to subordinate supervisors or staff members to meet schedules or resolve technical or operational problems. Directly participates in establishing and administering many centralized functional projects. This position reports directly to the Sr. Director of Manufacturing.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Through subordinates, develops, executes and approves/controls items such as: quality and productivity initiatives, material requirements, planning systems, work in progress tracking, material and labor variance analysis, and related manufacturing performance reporting. Analyzes production and advises management of anticipated output problems such as yield trends, capacity constraints, under-shipments, back order shortages, engineering changes, and equipment failures. Analyzes manufacturing costs, reviews / establishes time standards, and makes recommendations for tooling and processing requirements or improvements. Plans and coordinates smooth transition of new products from research and development to manufacturing. Establishes departmental training requirements and assesses operator capabilities in all aspects of his/her responsible area. Responsible for strict adherence to all aspects of ISO/GMP requirements. Responsible for Manufacturing Employee Performance. Works with peers, engineers, supervisors and other employees on team projects to solve problems and improve processes and procedures that enhance program quality, cost, and scheduling. Ensure that safety of employees, and security of premises are enforced. Some travel may be required.
REQUIREMENTS
This position requires a college degree or equivalent with seven years related experience, including supervision, preferably in a Class II or Class III device or medical equipment manufacturing environment. Previous manufacturing or operations management experience required with ability to analyze product configurations and design optimal process flow/assembly and test sequence. Experience with Word and Excel are required. Project Management experience desired.
