Manager of Embedded Software

Job Description:
The Manager of Embedded Software is responsible for the design and development of embedded systems to meet product design specifications and regulatory requirements for microcontroller-based medical products. This position will also be responsible for the evaluation of staff performance, assignment of tasks, recommendation of training, and determination of staffing requirements. Will develop/review software project plans and schedules, provide or support project management of software projects, and create, maintain, and enforce embedded software development procedures consistent with Smiths Design Controls and agency regulations and guidelines. Additional duties include: assessing, acquiring and maintaining the embedded software development tools, managing the software configuration process and software change requests for all supported embedded software, and negotiating with marketing and project management on software features and functionality
REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate must have a BS degree or higher in electrical engineering, software engineering, or related field along with a minimum of 10 years in embedded software development and software project leadership in the medical devices industry. At least 3 years in management or project leader role is desired. Knowledge of real-time interrupt-driven systems, state machines, micro-controllers (8, 16, 32-bit), device drivers. C, C++, and assembly. Software monitoring and control of portable, battery operated devices, force sensors, stepper motor control is required. Desire experience with communication and networking mediums, protocols, services, an security along with experience in application software development for Microsoft Windows operating systems using the .NET framework and Win32 API. An understanding of product safety and regulatory agency requirements such as FDA, MDD, IEC, and ANSI/AAMI SW68 is necessary coupled with a familiarity with device and network communications (RS232, TCP/IP, IRDA, USB). Must be able to utilize common software tools such as PVCS (Tracker, Configuration Builder, and Version Control), CodeWright, Requisite Pro, etc. Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, organizational, planning, multitasking, design and analytical skills are essential.
