At Varian, Inc. we're inspired by our customers, and strive to inspire others in all we do.Function: Research & DevelopmentProduct Area: NMR SystemsResponsibilities:Manage a cross-functional engineering group focusing on the design of NMR consoles and associated peripherals.Responsible for project definition, planning, and execution from concept through production.Responsible for functional group management, including performance management, employee and cultural development, administrative duties, etc.Technical responsibilities of group include:
System architecture design and systems engineering
Real time controller and data acquisition board/system design using FPGAs, embedded processors, and DSP
Real time embedded software development
RF circuit design (frequency synthesizers, receivers, transmitters, preamps, T/R switches, etc) up to 1 GHz
RF power amplifier specification and evaluation, managing OEM suppliers through development
Analog circuit design (ADC, DAC, power supplies, high current supplies, gradient amplifiers, AC/DC power/ground distribution, etc)
Some pneumatics (gas, fluid) design
Mechanical and industrial design of instrumentationUnique Aspects of the position:
The group develops instrumentation for magnetic resonance spectroscopy and imaging systems.Projects are multi-disciplinary, involving electrical, mechanical, and software engineering, as well as direct interaction with Marketing and Operations. REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications:
1. BS degree in electrical engineering or a related field, MS preferred.2. Ten years engineering experience, three years engineering management experience.3. Strong technical background and ability to manage engineers in diverse technical areas required.4. Experience in formal product development and manufacturing environment required.5. Strong project management skills required.6. Excellent oral and written communication required.CB
