Maintenance Project Engineer

PURPOSE
Responsible for effectively supporting the plant’s Maintenance Superintendent and other maintenance personnel in executing a comprehensive maintenance program designed to ensure that the mill operates safely, at its potential and is continuously extending its capabilities.
Directs an engineering team if applicable in development projects throughout the entire cycle from initial concept through successful completion. Finishes assigned engineering projects in accordance with customer specifications and within schedule and budget limitations and coordinates activities of engineering team, contractors and vendors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
•Performs all required duties and tasks in accordance with company accounting policies and financial control procedures.
•Maintains drawings and files, and develop an understanding of unit processes that convert raw materials to finished paperboard products.
•Provides leadership for other employees in supporting safety and housekeeping programs and procedures.
•Uses team management skills to lead the Engineering group during the conceptual phase of product development.
•Provides effective coordination and support for the mill’s E&I personnel, including routine maintenance, troubleshooting and project management – key resource for the mill’s E&I personnel.
•Directs development of an action plan and estimates requirements for resources—management, labor, materials and time required to complete project.
•Assesses vendors for competence, capabilities, resources and financial status.
•Provide oversight for planning and scheduling of routine vendor servicing of the mill’s electrical distribution system.
•Establishes and maintain the proper inventory of critical E&I spares and supplies.
•Develops the mill’s CMMS as an effective tool for identifying, planning, scheduling and tracking E&I activities.
•Monitors progress of development project and compares actual costs with estimates.
•Works with design team if applicable to modify plans as appropriate if problems arise.
•Reviews and studies existing equipment, facilities, systems and processes to improve efficiency, increase quality and reduce costs.
•Works with operations department in troubleshooting problems.
•Cooperates with project engineers from other plants to share similar problems and solutions.
•Participate in downtime maintenance and readiness planning.
•Handles routine maintenance projects designed to improve the reliability of the mill operation
•Ensures a safe and healthy workplace.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

REQUIREMENTS
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
•Bachelor's degree in engineering is required. A degree in electrical engineering is desired with 1-5 years of engineering experience and systems engineering design. Demonstrating proficiency in maintaining paper mill electrical and process control systems may be substituted.
•Familiarity with common preventive and predictive maintenance activities associated with paper mill equipment (E&I emphasis)
•1-5 years experience in paper mill project engineering or maintenance supervision – sufficient to understand the demands of the equipment, the challenges of maintenance supervision and the dynamics of the operation.
•Must have working knowledge of equipment design and operation of manufacturing equipment.
•Knowledge of lubricating systems, pumps, heat exchangers, pneumatic system and proper repair techniques a plus.
•Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills a must.
•Excellent analytical skills for reviewing costs and preparing budget reports.
•Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and database management.
•Experience with Auto CAD or similar mechanical CAD drafting package, as well as general computer skills.
