Duties and Responsibilities:This Senior Software Engineer position plans and provides technical solutions of the Verizon Wireless Data Mediation system (distributor, collector, terminal servers, communications components, protocol conversion, etc.) on a project basis including:
- Creates and reviews technical documents, including business cases, technical requirements, test plans, and implementation plans.
- Maintains system environment, scripting, and mediation configuration changes.
- Researches problem and supports other data mediation groups, other internal groups and vendors.
- Provides 2nd tier production support.
- Performs change management per company procedures.
- Be available for off-hours and weekend work, and/or to be on call 7x24, as needed.
- Occasional over-night travel to other company work locations, as required.
- Designs, codes, and tests mediation system business rule changes and additions.
- Plans and performs configuration management for staging and development systems.
- Provides cellular network element data validation and downstream consumer data testing.
- Provides technical support and consultation of network bandwidth, database sizing, disk sizing estimates for projects.
- Vendor management and coordination of non- Verizon Wireless resource technical contributors.
- Perform work utilizing standard corporate processes and procedures.
- Lead all technical facets of small to large-scale technical projects to ensure deliverables are met within schedule and quality goals for the following types of work: Cellular network upgrades, Data Network upgrades, Data mapping changes, Downstream application changes or additions, Data Mediation system upgrades, Revenue Assurance and performance reporting.
- Prioritizes, and manages the work activities of internal technical resources relevant to areas of responsibility.
- Mentors and trains technical team members.
- Assigns and follows up on technical tasks given to other employees or contracted resources.
Job Requirements
Candidate Qualifications:
- At least 5 years experience in the telephony industry, preferably with wireless carriers.
- At least 5 years experience with the UNIX operating system, preferably on SUN platforms using korn-shell, AWK, SED, and common system functions.
- At least 5 years of professional software development/testing experience that involved writing software requirements or design specifications, coding in structured programming language (C/C , Java, COBOL, etc), and test plan design and documentation.
- At least 5 years of experience with Oracle with knowledge of SQL Plus and PL/SQL.
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of the contents of billing Call Detail Records from Lucent (ECP18 or higher), Motorola (version 7.16 or higher), and Nortel (MTX10 or higher) cellular switches.
- Communicates verbally and in writing, in a clear and concise manner.
- Demonstrates a positive, proactive leadership role including taking the initiative to identify matters of importance; resolving problems in a timely fashion; and fostering a sense of teamwork.
- Strong analytic, interpersonal, and communications skills are required.
- Must have bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering or equivalent experience. Masters degree preferred.
- Preferred, at least 1-year experience with the Marconi Ceos mediation system, Openet Telecom Fusion Works system or other vendor mediation systems.
- Advanced knowledge of the contents of Internet Protocol Detail Record (IPDR) standard and/or the IS-835 standard.
- Consistently follows-up on outstanding items.
