MECHANICAL SYSTEM ENGINEER
OVERVIEW
Wood Group is an international energy services company with more than $2.7b sales, employing more than 16,000 people worldwide and operating from bases in over 40 countries. The Group has three businesses: Engineering and Production Facilities, Well Support, and Gas Turbine Services providing a range of engineering, production support, maintenance management and gas and steam turbine overhaul and repair services to the oil & gas and power generation industries worldwide.
Wood Group Turbine Control Services, Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary of Wood Group Power Holdings, a division of John Wood Group PLC, designs and installs control system upgrades on gas, steam, hydro turbine and reciprocating engine driven generators and mechanical drive packages. Control solutions include PLCs from a variety of manufacturers, built for purpose electronic turbine controls, mechanical actuation systems, fuel metering valving, hydraulic pressure units, trip systems including field demolition and installation.
MECHANICAL SYSTEM ENGINEER
We are seeking engineers to be responsible for the development of mechanical control solutions on a project basis. These solutions include turbomachinery controls upgrades and retrofits in U.S. and international countries as required. Deployment of these solutions will require specification of various purchased components and design of custom interfaces in order to provide a product solution to our customers. Development of these designs requires working directly with customers, interfacing with the sales team, coordinating/directing others on the project team, and working with vendors.
Specific Responsibilities:
Take a technical leadership position for a project from both the customer’s perspective and internal resources.
Design hydraulic systems (hydraulic power units, cylinders, trip systems, servo manifolds, etc.) for valve actuation and specify components for purchase.
Size and specify control valves (and associated fuel system components) for gas turbines.
Conceptualize and design custom fixtures to adapt commercially available components to the customer’s existing hardware.
Technical lead for coordination meetings, design reviews, and acceptance tests with the customer.
Participate in installation and commissioning of mechanical solutions jointly with our internal service department at the customer’s facilities.
Direct internal and contract resources (mechanical designers for 3D modelling, drafters for schematics, assemblers, etc.) to develop mechanical solutions.
Generate technical documentation for engineering and customer manuals.
