Thrive seeks Linux Network Engineers with 2 to 10 years experience to work within engineering teams to serve our growing client base. The Linux Network Engineer has primary responsibility for LAN/WAN project implementation and long-term client support, including heavy interaction with end-users in diverse computing environments. A Linux Network Engineer will have face-to-face one-on-one interaction with decision makers on a daily basis, and have the ability to communicate clearly and effectively in many different kinds of situations. Presentations to small customer groups may be required on some occasions.This position will require extensive travel, but it is all local travel around the meto area.

Minimum Technical Prerequisites for Linux Network EngineersA. Server Platform
Required: GNU / Linux
Also applicable: Solaris, *BSD, AIX, HP-UX, Windows NT / 2000 / 2003, Macintosh, Novell
1. Installation, configuration and troubleshooting
2. Configuration of file, print and remote access services
3. Administration of a Linux / Unix environment, including add/remove users and groups, configure file permissions, check system logs, configure and restore from backup, upgrade hardware and apply software patches.
4. Understanding of package management systems as well as building software distributed as source code
5. Installation of complex 3rd party applications
6. Management of email transfer agents including Sendmail, Exim, Postfix and/or QMail.B. Workstation
Required: XWindows (GNOME / KDE), Windows 2000 / XP
Troubleshooting and configuration
1. Installation, configuration and management of Linux / Unix windowing environments
2. Configuration of standard POP, IMAP, SMTP & Microsoft Exchange clients including Outlook and Outlook Express under Windows.
3. Installation, configuration, troubleshooting and customization office suite applications such as Microsoft Office and Open Office per customer preferences
4. Solid understanding of and ability to install, configure and test workstation hardware including video cards, modems, NICs, sound cards, hard drives, and handheld computers.C. Other Preferred Technical Knowledge
Solid experience managing Linux / Unix systems via the command line.
Solid understanding of and ability to configure TCP / IP and troubleshooting Internet connectivity
Understanding of DNS services
Experience with and understanding of routers and firewalls
Experience and understanding of Samba, CUPS, NFS, NIS, LDAP
Apache, MySQL and Postgres.
Basic shell and/or PERL scripting expertise.
Understanding of all aspects of networking, including cabling, switches, routers, VLANs, etc.
