Lead Product Safety Specialist

We have an opportunity for a:LEAD PRODUCT SAFETY SPECIALISTProvides in-depth regulatory, technical and program guidance and expertise to Arkema Inc. business units, operating locations, staff groups and company facilities regarding HES and product safety regulatory matters at the product level for specially regulated applications, primarily food contact applications. She/he identifies and develops comprehensive strategies and compliance for meeting current, potential, or newly modified regulations, and global initiatives for materials used in food contact applications.Job Responsibilities will include:
- Provide sound technical solutions to food contact product safety compliance issues by maintaining a working knowledge of related regulations, and adapting to changes in the regulatory environment, specific state requirements, or unclear or inconsistent interpretations by governmental agencies.
- Provide guidance and advice to business product stewards, and business advocates on product stewardship activities required by the Responsible Care® Management System. Represent product stewardship element at Arkema’s RCMS Steering Team.
- Evaluate the impact of new legislation or rulemaking for food contact materials on the company’s diverse product lines and processes, coordinate comment within the company regarding those issues, and provide compliance guidance.
- Suggest cost effective solutions to food contact regulatory compliance issues while maintaining a favorable business environment.
- Negotiate sensitive issues for food contact materials with governmental agencies or certification authorities while avoiding penalties or business interruption.
REQUIREMENTS
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry. Advanced degree in a scientific field strongly preferred, and/or substantial experience (10-15 yrs) with Federal, state and non-US regulatory compliance and the chemical industry.
- Excellent understanding of US laws and regulations pertaining to specially regulated applications -- particularly food contact applications. Strong understanding of international counterparts to US food contact product laws and regulations.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills. Able to represent the department or company at senior level meetings, and to express complex concepts, thoughts and ideas clearly and simply. Capable of conducting formal training sessions within, and outside the company.
- Strong project management skills.
- Advanced computer skills with standard office software and specialized programs highly desirable.- Must be self-directed and creative.
