Qwest Government Services Division Lead Engineer-EN0023

Responsibilities: Provide Systems Engineering and Design for a Lucent 5ESS Switching System, Fujitsu SONET based facilities, DSL Systems, and peripheral switching equipment (i.e. DACS, Conference Bridge, DLC systems, T-1, Monitoring and Alarm systems). Supervise a team of Central Office Technicians performing daily installation, maintenance, and repair of all switch, optical remote, DLC, DSL, DS-1, DS-3, ISDN, POTS, and Carrier services. Provide customer pricing proposals for all required or recommended systems upgrades and repairs. Interface with vendors to determine economic and technological customer solutions and proposals. Interface with Carriers to secure required services and escalate/coordinate necessary repairs and installations. Use existing as-built systems documentation, commercial telecommunications publications, corporate standards, and systems engineering concepts to assist in technical proposal development. Provide technical Quality Control (QC) review of all systems and subordinates. Conduct technical research of new systems hardware and software products. Work on data network transport and software engineering projects as deemed necessary in support of engineering and customer requirements. Develop and present technical presentations to internal staff and customer as required. Attend technical seminars, commercial training, and vendor presentations as deemed necessary by Program Manager. Will provide technical guidance and skills in support of systems integration issues involving hardware, software, operating system and communications interoperability. Evaluates issues and coordinates solutions addressing wide range of disciplines including engineering, communications, and systems interoperability. Provides direction and support to central office staff. Qualifications: Experience required - 7 to 10 years of direct application in Switching Systems Engineering. Systems Integration or Operations; technical knowledge of Lucent 5ESS, SONET multiplexers, DLC Systems, DS-3, DS-1, and DSL Network Administration and Design. 1 Year Technical Documentation Preparation/Presentation: Edit, prepare and present technical engineering documentation. Cisco CCNA or CCNP certification preferred 1-2 Years experience SONET Systems Engineering/Operations: Network operations, design, or implementation; Fujitsu SONET products. 1 Year Information Systems integration Candidate must demonstrate in-depth knowledge of communications processes with specific emphasis in Transport systems. Bachelors degree in engineering (EE, CS) or technical field desired. Demonstrated experience as defined with management/engineering involvement may be substituted for the degree. Require strong oral and written communication skills. Significant interface with customers will be a major portion of the work environment. Must be able to edit technical material, type accurately and use standard office products: Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Access, Excel.
