Full Job Title: Laser Communications Systems Engineering Lead Skills Management Title Laser Sys Dsgn/DvlpJob Level: MANAGEMENTBusiness Component: Integrated Defense Systems (IDS)Job Description: Lead the TSAT Laser Communications (Lasercom) IPT's systems engineering team. Direct requirements definition and flowdown from the system Technical Requirements Document (TRD) through subsystem and unit-level. Develop architecture and system-level design, develop verification methodologies and plans, and define and direct execution of analysis and test activities. Define lasercom interfaces and provide support to program SEI&T IPT. Provide risk management function for lasercom subsystem. Manage cost and schedule for the systems engineering function to the program EVMS and provide updates to the lasercom portion of the IMS for Lasercom SE deliverables and activities. Act as customer focal for Lasercom IPT SE issues, and support both internal and customer ERBs for SE items. Management tasks include employee development, setting goals/objectives and training requirements for each employee, holding performance evaluations, and conducting safety audits. Competencies TECHNICAL SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE: Has a fundamental understanding of systems engineering as applied to free-space optical communications systems. Versed in 1550-nm electro-optic systems, both free-space and fiber-based. Knowledge of development and application of optical communications systems theory: link budgets, modulations, key functional components and models. Experienced in leading a team, delegating tasks, providing guidance, and working to an EVMS to produce excellent results and meet cost and schedule goals. Excellent verbal and written communications skills are required. Good organizational skills in planning major events, such as development of key deliverables. Experienced in all phases of the engineering process, from requirements development through hardware test and verification.
