Lapping Engineer

Rubicon Technology is seeking a Lapping Engineer for our Franklin Park, Illinois-based materials science company. We are engaged in the manufacturing and marketing of high quality single crystals for a wide range of high technology markets. Founded in 1995, applications for Rubicon’s products include high brightness LED’s and other sapphire based products. Rubicon Technology’s mission is to become a global material science solutions provider through research and development, manufacturing, marketing and distribution of high-density crystal applications for the communications, semiconductor, opto-electronics and optical marketplaces.

Key Responsibilities:
Develop new lapping process for the 6 inch sapphire productImprove the cycle time of all lapped material
Improve the quality of the lapped products
Support the shop on all lapping activities
Design/develop new process to allow the introduction of new product with new specifications
Create and maintain a process control system to monitor:
1. Capacity
2. Capability
3. Through-puts
4. Model to predict capacity/capability/throughput with respect to product mix
REQUIREMENTS
Candidate Requirements:
Able to run diagnostic evaluation on the machine and decide on the type of service needed to fix the lapping machine
Able to perform basic service on lapping machine
Qualified candidate will have BS in Material/Mechanical Engineering. A minimum of 3 years of demonstrated, direct experience related to the position responsibilities in a high-tech manufacturing environment, semi-conductor industry preferred.
