Inspector/Engineering Specialist 3

The Oregon Department of Transportation was established in 1969 to provide a safe, efficient transportation system that supports economic opportunity and livable communities for Oregonians. ODOT develops programs related to Oregon’s system of highways, roads, and bridges; railways; public transportation services; transportation safety programs; driver and vehicle licensing; and motor carrier regulation.

INSPECTOR/ENGINEERING SPECIALIST 3

The Inspector/Engineering Specialist 3 is to act as an inspector on the Project Managers crew of 5 to 35 team members. This position can function as inspector and survey crew chief. All employees will be expected to participate in team development and team management of their crews/sections. This position works with regional planning, project delivery, operations and maintenance. This position is located in Springfield.

As a Inspector/Engineering Specialist 3 you will:
• Monitor contractor's activities for conformance to project plans and specifications.
• Work with the contractor to resolve project issues such as ambiguities with plans and specification, differing site conditions, quality of work, etc.
• Assure the quality of the materials and workmanship incorporated into the project. Review documentation provided by the contractor and suppliers to verify that materials meet specifications. Document acceptance with field inspection reports.
• Measure and document work performed by the contractor for progress and final payments in accordance with ODOT policies and procedures.
• Assist Project Manager (PM) and Assistant Project Manager (APM) in resolving contractor claims; identifying and tracking force account work.
• Monitor contractor’s traffic control conformance to the manual of Uniform Traffic Control plans and specifications and the contractor’s Traffic Control Plan (TCP). Assist the contractor in revising the TCP to adapt to changing project and traffic conditions.
• Review the contractor’s Pollution Control Plan and Erosion Control Plan for conformance to environmental permits and the biological documents for the project. Monitor the contractor’s performance in these areas for conformance requirements.
• Review the contractor’s safety plan and monitor for conformance to OSHA and industry standards.

REQUIREMENTS
Position Qualifications include:
• An Associate's degree in Engineering Technology from a recognized community college or technical school of engineering and four years of experience directly related to engineering; OR
• Five and one-half years (66 months) of sub-professional engineering experience, OR
• Any equivalent combination of above education and experience.
