Inside Technical Sales Representative

Putnam Plastics, now in it’s second decade of business, as a result of its ability to provide customers throughout the world with solutions to complex medical tubing problems, has become a leader in its field. And we are now hiring an Inside Technical Sales Representative.

Position Overview
Communicate with customers and work with PPC Engineering to match customers’ raw technological requirements with PPC manufacturing capabilities. Manage relationships with customers and speak as the technical voice of the company.

Essential Job Functions
Personally speak with customers regarding every request (RFQ) to ensure complete understanding of customers’ needs and of any potential complications with any given manufacturing option.
Work closely with PPC engineering to maintain knowledge of current technological capabilities and the ability to solve customers’ technological requirements.
Gather contextual information from field sales representatives including: volume forecasts, price targets, and competition.
Compose formal quotations to establish the technical solution to be developed, the terms and conditions under which it will be developed and any potential issues or concerns.
Maintain quoting performance statistics including: overall quote volume, success rate, and RFQ response time.

Non-Essential Job Functions
Assist field sales representatives.
Represent PPC at trade shows.
Accompany field sales on select customer visits.
Follow up with customers after quotes are issued to ensure quality service.
Provide ongoing technical support and training.
Assist PPC Engineering
Provide market data on technologies in demand to direct R&D.
Provide general engineering support.
REQUIREMENTS
Requirements
Strong verbal and written skills.
Experience in sales and/or comfort with public speaking.
MBA or other business training desirable.
Perceptive to customers’ needs beyond the immediate technical challenge.
Strong technical ability.
BS in Engineering Discipline
Experience in Plastics or Mechanical Engineering Preferred.
Understand customers’ abstract requirements and match with a PPC technical capability.
Provide customer with technical support regarding manufacturability and basic polymer characteristics.
Ability to offer alternative technical solutions to customers’ presuppositions.
Read and analyze technical drawings and documents.
Manage multiple open tasks with a sense of urgency for the completion of each.
Comfortable with domestic and international travel as required or desired (5% Travel)
