ITS Technician 2

The Oregon Department of Transportation was established in 1969 to provide a safe, efficient transportation system that supports economic opportunity and livable communities for Oregonians. ODOT develops programs related to Oregon’s system of highways, roads, and bridges; railways; public transportation services; transportation safety programs; driver and vehicle licensing; and motor carrier regulation.ITS TECHNICIAN 2The ITS Technician 2 will directly support traffic and design engineers in solving practical problems encountered in the design, construction, and operation of Intelligent Transportation Systems and their component subsystems. This position is located in Portland.As an ITS Technician 2 you will:
• Maintain equipment to the standards and guidelines set forth by the Traffic Signal Services Unit (TSSU) and the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT). This equipment consists of computers, computer software, variable message signs, hydraulic scales, AVI antennas, overheight equipment, axle sensors, modems, etc.• Conduct field inspections of ITS equipment to the standards and guidelines set forth by the Traffic Signal Services Unit and ODOT.
• Install and repair traffic signal control devices, such as fixed time, semi- and fully actuated solid-state controllers, electronic master complete with computers, speed measuring equipment, loop detector amplifiers, coordination equipment, electro-mechanical mechanisms, microprocessor based control equipment, replace contacts, filters, bearings and overhaul timing motors.
• Troubleshoot, repair, calibrate and maintain the road weather information systems (RWIS) equipment (which consists of weather sensing devices, remote processing units (RPU's, RWIS software, variable message signs, modems, etc.) to the standards and guidelines set forth by the Traffic Signal Services Unit and ODOT. This equipment is located statewide.
• Troubleshoot, repair, calibrate and maintain stand-alone variable message signs to the standards and guidelines set forth by the Traffic Signal Services Unit and ODOT. This equipment is located statewide.

REQUIREMENTS
Position Qualifications include:
• Four years of experience maintaining, testing and repairing electronic equipment. Two of the four years must have been in maintaining, testing and repairing traffic systems and traffic signal controllers; OR• An Associate's degree in Electronic Technology from an approved school AND two and a half years (30 months) of experience maintaining, testing and repairing traffic systems and traffic signal controllers.• Preference may be given to candidates with experience in maintaining, testing and repairing PLCs or microprocessor equipment.
