IP Set Top Box H/W Engineer

Department Description: IP Set Top Box Engineering - This department is responsible for the development of an array of state-of-the-art IP set top boxes for customers worldwide

Responsibilities/Expectations: Hardware Engineer responsible for the development of a family of IP set top boxes. Will participate in the complete product life cycle process including:
Participate as the technical representative for product/customer proposals and requirements (PMRs).

Assist in the development of performance specs. Understand performance requirements and their implications to product complexity/cost.

Design IP STB architectures of significant complexity. Perform design partitioning. Perform or direct the design and simulation of digital and mixed-signal circuits of high complexity to meet performance requirements.

Work with vendors to define requirements and specify devices (standard or custom). Provide guidelines, direction and design review for PCB layouts to ensure circuit performance, Design-For-Manufacturability (DFM), etc.

Coordinate and direct information between internal and outside (ODM) design teams. May direct the day-to-day activities of a small team of Engineers and Technicians. Interface with internal customers (e.g.: Supply Chain Management).

Create High-Level Design (HLD) and Low-Level Design (LLD) documentation. Develop circuit test requirements and evaluate test results. Perform test & debug of hardware systems of significant complexity. Demonstrate expertise with use of test equipment. Assemble and distribute test reports.

Assist in obtaining regulatory and industry certifications.

Perform or assist in the development of System-Level test process and procedures. Provide direction in the development of Acceptance Test Plans (ATPs). Coordinate with QA organizations to ensure ATPs are aligned with design goals and PMRs.
Evaluate factory test plans. Oversee production launches (travel to factory site may be required)^^

Knowledge Skills: Expertise in the following areas:
Demonstrated experience in the architecture, design, simulation, test, evaluation, and documentation of complex digital and mixed-signal designs (Embedded Microprocessors, Audio, Video, DDR, PCI, USB, Ethernet, etc.).
Understanding of emissions and board design practices for reducing them.
Experience using analog, digital and communications test equipment
Experience with managing product development in conjunction with ODM/OEM partners.
Must possess excellent project and people management skills.
Experience in some or all of the following areas:
Set Top Box design practices, including Digital Circuits, High-Definition Video, Audio and PLL design.
Advanced audio/video decoding technologies, including MPEG2, MPEG4, WM9, VC1, Dolby, AAC & WMA.
Networking systems and IP based protocols
Advanced networking technologies, including HPNAv3, MoCA, HomePlugA/V, vDSL.
Video standards (NTSC, PAL and High-Definition)
Audio performance specifications & measurements (Baseband, AC3, AAC, etc.)
TL9000 development practices
Knowledge of the following may be helpful:
Digital signal processing
FPGA design and Verilog/VHDL coding and simulation
MPEG2 Transport Stream processing.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering. 5+ years of engineering experience. OR Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering. 3+ years of engineering experience.
