User Interface Design – Design the product user interface according to standards and best practices.Prototyping – Develop functional, operational, physical, and user interface architectures for our medical products. Usability Studies – Conduct usability studies, develop user profiles, design usability tests, and write formal reports.Design Reviews – Review existing product designs and identify necessary enhancements.Risk Management – Identify, assess, and develop mitigations to product risks based on usability and user error. The following are specific responsibilities of the Human Computer Interaction Specialist:Work with product management to develop and document the project’s user interface, its functional requirements, and product risk mitigations. Work with our customers to understand clinical workflows and clinical requirements as a basis for UI design.Assist product management in product planning through requirements development and analysis. Propose new product features and updates. Write user interface requirements specifications according to our standard templates and procedures including UI layout and technical descriptions of each interface element. Participate in peer reviews and inspections of requirements documents.Manage changes to requirements and user interface designs. Experience and Competencies: 5+ years of human factors engineering experience preferably in a medical device or other regulated product development organization. Good understanding of HCI, CHI, as well as UI modeling and prototyping techniques with emphasis on use cases is needed. Excellent knowledge about user interface design in PC based medical systems using Microsoft XP operating systems. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills to communicate information effectively to marketing, managers, and technical staff. Ability to convey ideas and concepts to a wide range of audience including the clinical community, product management and engineers are essential. Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline oriented environment as part of a team. Produce excellent results with minimal supervision. Strong analytic and decision-making skills. Strong quality orientation and customer focus. Interaction and collaboration with several departments and locations in the United States, Germany, Sweden, and India required. Occasional domestic and international travel required. Education/Equivalent Training Required: BS in Computer Science, Human Factors Engineering, or related field required.
