Hardware-Oriented Software Engineers (Several Levels)

Smart Transitions employees are experts in the transition of conceptual designs into early prototype construction and experimentation. All positions are full time at our Arlington, VA, headquarters. ST is seeking well-rounded individuals to satisfy a requirement for Hardware-Oriented Software Engineer positions. It is of paramount importance to exceed our client expectations with high integrity and focused attention to milestones.

Responsibilities: Design, fabrication and testing of real time and post detection signal processing hardware/software for both sensor and communications prototypes as well as allied test bed and other processing environments. Native design or the transition of COTS-based hardware, to custom miniaturized hardware and real time software for use in production systems will also be required. Design, development, and documentation of real-time embedded software utilizing high level languages; integration and testing of hardware and software elements; development of processor specific assembly code; performance validation of HW/SW systems; and generation of GUI and simulation applications on PC platforms for user interfaces and in-lab test devices will be undertaken by the successful candidate. Application support includes, for example, the development and maintenance of an embedded spectral signature library operating within an expert system capable of automated near real time chemical species classification using embedded or external computing platforms. Candidates may also be assigned to provide numerical analytical software or control code for uPs and embedded computer systems within our developing sensor systems. Additional responsibilities generally include the development and interpretation of in-depth product and component specifications; preparation of ICDs and design/technical analysis packages.

We seek candidates with exceptional software design skills with 5+ to 10+ years relevant experience for top level positions in the development of real-time embedded microprocessors, microcontroller systems, and DSPs and/or relevant application and control software for such systems. Knowledge of software development and a good understanding of hardware-software integration and debugging methodology a must. Candidates should be very knowledgeable and skilled in digital architectures and hardware/development tools. The ideal candidate will have proven record in the development of embedded application software (operating in the general context of real time sensor/communications systems) as well as significant hands-on experience working with digital and analog hardware; will posses the ability to generate design documentation in the support of systems engineering; and can work independently with a minimum of direct supervision. BS or advanced degrees required. Employment may be contingent on the ability to receive and maintain a security clearance. An active TS/SCI is a plus. This position will require occasional travel throughout the continental US.
