Hardware Engineer Senior

Standard Job Description: Conducts or participates in the research, design, development, testing and utilization of information processing hardware and/or electrical components, mechanisms, materials, circuitry, processes, and as a minor subset, packaging and cabinetry, for processors and/or storage. Prepares technical and progress reports on assigned projects. Prepares specifications, evaluates vendors, and analyzes test reports. May specialize in one area such as storage systems, printers, etc.

Typical Minimums: Bachelors degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 5 years of professional experience; or 3 years of professional experience with a related Masters degree. Considered career, or journey, level.

Specific Job Description: This position (Hardware Engineer) is for a new program currently planned for operations in February 2007. The hardware engineer is the liaison between the IDMO and the communications/networks organization. This position provides support for integration of new computer systems, evaluation of hardware cooling and power requirements, integration of new communications hardware, trouble-shooting of existing communications hardware, and evaluation and recommendations of site security requirements for new and existing hardware, routers, and multiplexers. Experience troubleshooting communications networks, Point-to-point systems, secure systems, signal coding and modulation schema are a plus. Candidate should have experience with oscilliscopes and diagnostic test equipment for characterizing system performance and performing fault isolation of system failures. Degrees or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering, and or Industry communication systems are desired. Candidate for this position must work well on a team, and be able to communicate technical issues to non-technical people.
