GIS Technician (4877)

Perot Systems Government Services (PSGS) is seeking a part-time GIS Technician to support our contract with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Coastal Services Center (Center) in Charleston, SC. The responsibilities of this position include GIS data development, map production and general GIS support. The successful candidate will be part of project teams utilizing GIS technology to help state and local governments manage environmental resources.The primary goal of this position is to provide GIS support for the on-going Shoreline Data Development initiative at the Center. The project aims to produce accurate vector shoreline data from scanned historical shoreline maps. The main responsibility of the successful candidate will be to perform quality control measures on the data to ensure accuracy.Specific duties include:

Retrieval and review of spatial data in ArcGIS

Performing quality control measures on the data

Meeting with and discussing potential errors in the vectorization with project leaderDesired skills include:

Working knowledge of GIS software (ESRI's ArcGIS 9x)

The ability to work independently and on a team

Ability to stay on schedule and meet deadlines

Organizational and data management skills

Attention to detailSpecific Skills Required: Excellent communication and coordination skills. Use and understanding of ESRI software.Requires a BS/BA and 1 year of experience.
