Formulations Engineer for Chemical Manufacturer
The primary purpose is to provide technical support to formulation sites as it relates to operations and tolling needs. Function as liaison between manufacturing operations, research and development, and sales. Facilitate the maximization and optimization of resources to achieve customer satisfaction, productivity, schedule adherence and economic goals. Focus is on domestic and international operations. WORKING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENT/SCOPE: Must exercise continuous leadership to focus efforts on priorities. Must deal with constantly shifting priorities. Must be technically proficient to "troubleshoot" mechanical and chemical upsets. Strict adherence to Corporate and/or Plant policies, rules, and regulations in these areas is required. A commitment to carrying out the Company's Quality Policy is required. An employee in this position must focus on customers' expectations, prevent problems, and strive for continuous improvement resulting in improved results for themselves, customers and other employees. Travel required: 35%. Scope may be worldwide. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned. Provide support to formulation and toller sites to include, but not limited to: assisting in the design, modification, and construction of formulation lines/plants; training; developing manufacturing, safety, and quality procedures; and troubleshooting operations. 1.Identify packaging equipment and materials for new products and improvements. Provide support and guidance in the overall design and development of packaging. 2.Obtain tolling costs. Audit toller plants, as necessary under Responsible Care guidelines. 3.Provide guidance to plants in meeting environmental requirements. 4.Prepare departmental budgets, and administer and control the approved budget during the business year. Provide input to Capital Plan and oversee capital improvement projects. 5.Acquire understanding of new technologies in support of marketing initiatives. Liaise with R&D and coordinate interface between plants and R&D in transfer and implementation of new technology. 6.Monitor research and development work to ensure operation’s preparedness of commercialization process. 7.Support Sales with new product introduction, including, but not limited to, implementing modifications and improvements to existing products to meet customer needs. Interact effectively with marketing and sales personnel to understand customer product needs. 8.Provide guidance and support in the selection and evaluation of formulators and/or alternatives, including, but not limited to, the full life cycle process of evaluation, costing, logistics, production capability/reliability, negotiating toll fee and final contracts, transfer of package, startup support, and periodic monitoring/follow-up. 9.Ensure a competent work force is maintained and properly trained on the process and systems, and supports safe and effective operations. Plan for current, future, and/or fluctuating production and staffing requirements.
REQUIREMENTS
B.A./B.S. in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering 5+ years in materials planning and/or production Experience with SAP and ISO9000 is desirable.
